A trip to the movies can be a fun adventure for the whole family. But did you know that portions of some famous movies were filmed right in Northbrook and Wilmette? It's true, let's have a look:
1. "Weird Science" is about two nerds who create the perfect woman. Set in the fictional Shermer, Illinois, some of their adventures were filmed at Northbrook Court in Northbrook.
2. "Ordinary People", about an Illinois family coping with the death of their oldest son, has a scene in the Original Pancake House at 153 Green Bay Road in Wilmette.
3. "Home Alone", the comedy misadventures of an eight-year-old boy left home alone when his parents go on vacation, had parts filmed at the Trinity Methodist Church, 1024 Lake Avenue in Wilmette as well as other North Shore locations.
4. "The Breakfast Club" now a cult classic, shows us a day in the life of five high school students as they bond during Saturday detention. Scenes were filmed at the Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook.
If you get a chance to see some of these movies, be sure to keep an eye open for the local sites mentioned above. It's great fun to see places that are part of your daily life on the big screen.
Make Wilmette, Glenview, Northbrook and the North Shore part of your daily life so if the big screen comes to town, you'll be there to watch them film. The Marla Schneider Team can help you find your perfect home in any of these photogenic neighborhoods.
